Aggression Assistance Programs - how WE CAN WORK TOGETHER
When other local classes turned them away, I knew I had to step in. I’m Jordan, the certified dog trainer behind SBdogs, and years ago, I created a 6-week course specifically for aggressive dogs—those who had nowhere else to go. This program, held twice a week with a maximum of five dogs, was designed to transform their behavior, rebuild their confidence, and strengthen the bond with their owners. Here’s how we did it.
We started at a park, ensuring the dogs were over 300 feet away from any distractions—people, dogs, or triggers—without reacting. That distance was our baseline, and from there, I worked relentlessly to desensitize them. Session by session, we closed the gap, building confidence in both the dogs and their owners. I brought in decoy dogs to walk the perimeter or cross through the space, and human decoys to move around, increasing distractions gradually. The goal was simple but challenging: get these dogs to a point where they could handle real-world chaos without reacting.
The process was intense. We focused on trust—trust in me, in their owners, and in the process. Owners traded dogs during sessions, learning to work with each other’s pups, which deepened the dogs’ adaptability and the owners’ understanding of their behaviors. By the final session, the transformation was breathtaking: all five dogs would lie in a down position, we even added food bowls in front of them, surrounded by distractions, and not react. It was a testament to their growth and the unwavering commitment of their owners.
What made this program so special was the stakes. These owners knew this might be their dog’s last chance, and they showed up with as much heart as their dogs did. Watching those bonds strengthen, seeing the dogs gain confidence, and witnessing the owners’ dedication—it was beautiful. At SBdogs, I believe every dog deserves a chance to thrive, and I’m proud to help dogs and their families find that path.
